MPONELA, Malawi -- The National Initiative For Civic Education urged youth from different political parties Wednesday to refrain from violence ahead of Malawi's 2025 general elections, writes Philord Kamagunda.
"It is important for the youth to embrace tolerance," said NICE programs Officer Alinafe Chikakuda after meeting with youth leaders from various parties in Dowa district. "This will help ensure peaceful, credible and fair elections."
Chikakuda encouraged young people to actively participate within their parties, saying Malawi's 2063 vision requires youth involvement in decision-making.
Wezzie Mthala, secretary of the Malawi Congress Party's Mponela youth wing, praised NICE for the engagement.
"It has opened our eyes on how we can participate in meaningful politics without being used as agents of violence," she said.
The meeting was funded by the European Union.
