Ngwira Calls for Resolution Over Mwansa's Moyale Unavailability
On Feb. 1, Moyale announced Mwansa as head coach for 2024 but he has been giving instructions from the stands in all six games as he awaits clearance in the FA's Mpira Connect system.
MZUZU, Malawi— Veteran coach Sir Alex Ngwira has urged the Malawi Defense Force to resolve the standoff between Moyale Barracks and Mafco FC over coach Pritchard Mwansa, saying the situation is negatively impacting Moyale's performance, writes Victor Musongole.
Ngwira was reacting to Mwansa's absence from the Moyale technical bench for the past six games due to Mafco's failure to clear him in the Mpira Connect system used by the Football Association of Malawi.
"In coaching, communication is very vital so the case of Mwansa giving instructions from the terraces makes it difficult to achieve desired results as the instructions may be misinterpreted and it doesn't give you that authority so this should be resolved for the good of the team," Ngwira said.
Mwansa said while awaiting guidance from his Malawi Defense Force employers, the standoff between the two teams has greatly affected him.
"I'm employed by the Malawi Defense Force so I will wait for their guidance as to when we will discuss the matter, as a military man I will follow what my bosses will tell me but as a coach I'm greatly affected by this," Mwansa said.
Omega Masamba, Moyale's general secretary, acknowledged the issue, saying they are waiting for seniors to resolve it soon.
"As a team we are aware that our head coach has not been cleared by Mafco where he went last year to help them but as a team we have chosen not to feature him for games on the technical panel for fear of penalties but our seniors are working on resolving the issue soon," Masamba said.
Mike Uzale, Mafco's general secretary, declined to comment, referring the matter back to Moyale.
Mwansa was attached to Mafco in May last year from Moyale for a reported six-month stint. At Mafco, he guided the club to two cup finals and helped them survive relegation.
