By embracing inclusive practises, Malawi can foster a generation of empowered individuals who contribute to the development and progress of the nation.
Dowa, Malawi-Fount for Nations, World Vision Malawi, and Ana Onse Mpata Umodzi organizations are urging key stakeholders in the country to enhance funding for inclusive education, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
Speaking at a one-day stakeholders meeting in Mponela, Dowa, Connex Kafera, the Advocacy and Communications Officer at Fount for Nations, emphasised that inclusive education is crucial for building a society that values diversity, promotes equal opportunities for all children, and ensures that every child has access to quality education.
Kafera further called for increased funding for inclusive education in Malawi to, among other things, facilitate the purchase of teaching and learning materials, promoting learning opportunities for all learners.
"It is through inclusive practises that we can break down barriers and create a society where every child feels valued and included," said Kafera.
Peter Msendema, the Chief Education Officer responsible for inclusive education, expressed gratitude to the organizations for supplementing government efforts in promoting inclusive education and its potential to transform lives in the country.
Msendema emphasized that through collaboration between stakeholders, including government officials, the goal of inclusive education can be achieved in the country.
"These interventions are in line with Malawi Vision 2063, and there is hope that as a country, we will achieve our goals," said Msendema.
Senior Chief Kayembe, one of the participants, commended the organisations for their efforts in addressing issues of inclusive learning in their localities.
She expressed her commitment to promoting inclusive education in her area by ensuring that all children have equal access to educational opportunities.
