NGO Donates K70 Million in Medical Supplies to Mzimba Hospital
The donation, sourced from U.S. partners World Emergency Relief and the Malawi Project, includes hospital beds, drugs, mattresses, infant warming units, and other medical equipment.
MZIMBA, Malawi— Mzimba South District Health Office received a boost of over K70 million in medical supplies and equipment from Action for Progress, a church-affiliated NGO, writes James Nyirenda.
The donation addresses critical shortages affecting health service delivery in the district, which serves a population of over 700,000.
Dr. Prince Chirwa, director of health and social services at the Mmbelwa District Council, called the support timely.
"We are very grateful for the donation," Chirwa said. "Action for Progress consulted us to identify specific needs, benefiting every department."
Chirwa emphasized that the equipment will improve health services, with some items destined for remote facilities.
Mzimba District Hospital serves as a referral center for 33 health centers and posts in Mzimba South.
Wilson Tembo, executive director of Action for Progress, said the organization was compelled to help after noticing communities weren't receiving adequate health services.
"If they need any support in future, we're more than willing to help," Tembo said.
The donation, sourced from U.S. partners World Emergency Relief and the Malawi Project, includes hospital beds, drugs, mattresses, infant warming units, and other medical equipment.
Action for Progress is a faith-based organization providing social services in education, health, and agriculture.
