Newly-chartered lions club beckons more charity projects
The Lilongwe-Umodzi Lions Club was officially chartered on June 25, 2022, at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe.
Malawi: Lilongwe-Umodzi Lions Club, a newly established lions club in Lilongwe, says it plans to implement various charity initiatives to help transform the lives of vulnerable people in the country.
Nkhafwire Mkandawire, president of the Lions Club, stated that as a new lions club, they will focus on various charity programmes throughout the country.
Mkandawire said: “As now we are a well-established club and fully recognized by Lions Club International, we have put a very solid foundation in order to serve our communities better.
“The public should expect a lot from us as we will focus on doing various charity programs such as supporting the cancer pediatric ward at Kamuzu Central Hospital, supporting Malingunde School for the Blind; and we will also keep on participating in tree planting activities.”
He also stated that as a new club, they will focus their efforts on providing sanitary pads to girls and school fees to needy students throughout the country.
Mkandawire urged those who want to help communities to join the Lilongwe-Umodzi Lions Club and participate in charity work programmes.
“Currently, the club has 23 members so we are urging those with skills and passion to serve the less privileged to come and join us,” explained the new Club’s President, adding, “We have a lot of needs in the communities that cannot be addressed by only 23 people.”
Chisomo Gunda, Past Governor for District 412B, which includes lion clubs from Malawi and Mozambique, praised the Lilongwe-Umodzi Lions Club for its mission to serve communities in the country through charitable works.
She also advised the new lions club to stay focused on its mission, regardless of the challenges it may face.
Gunda said: “My advice to Lilongwe-Umodzi Lions Club is that they should keep going, it can get tough with tough economic times as we are all seeing, but it is all about the heart because when you serve from the heart you still keep going.
“There are times you cannot manage to give out your personal resources but you can be creative enough to get from those that have and give it to those who have not.”
