BLANTYRE, Malawi - A new telecommunications and internet provider, Zero2, has entered the Malawian market, aiming to bridge the digital divide for low-income earners, writes Steven Godfrey Mkweteza.
Faizal Okhai, Zero2's Managing Director, declared the launch "a new dawn" for affordable and accessible connectivity solutions, promising to "propel Malawi forward."
Zero2 prioritizes the affordability and quality needs of low and middle-income Malawians, investing over MK15 billion in building its network infrastructure.
Currently operational in Blantyre, Mzuzu, Lilongwe, and other key cities, it offers 4G LTE services alongside a special launch package.
Minister of Information and Digitalization, Moses Kunkuyu, enthusiastically welcomed Zero2, emphasizing the crucial role of technology in Malawi's development goals.
He reiterated the government's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for private sector investment in affordable, high-quality services.
"This is why we are lobbying for lower costs," Kunkuyu stated, acknowledging the need to enable wider access to the digital world.
