New School to Boost Education in Salima
The construction of Mkanga Secondary School is seen as evidence of the government's commitment to promoting education, according to Mwawa.
SALIMA, Malawi - A new secondary school in Salima is expected to increase educational opportunities for students in the region, writes Alinafe Nyanda.
President Lazarus Chakwera will commission the Mkanga Community Day Secondary School on Monday, a project which began construction last year.
Member of Parliament for Salima South East Mike Ng'ombe Mwawa said the school will provide greater access to secondary education and help reduce unwanted pregnancies that have affected girls traveling long distances for schooling.
"Let me commend President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his administration for the love and passion towards a girl child that used to cover long distances to access secondary education," Mwawa said in an interview Sunday.
Mwawa said the development shows that providing proper infrastructure creates more opportunities for student success.
He urged development partners to support the government's efforts to improve education.
Traditional authority Kambwiri also expressed happiness that the president fulfilled promises to provide development projects, including the new school, for the Katelera area.
The construction of Mkanga Secondary School is seen as evidence of the government's commitment to promoting education, according to Mwawa.
"This is a testimony to what the government has scored in its quest to promote education," he said.
