LILONGWE, Malawi— The newly-elected president of the Lilongwe Lingadzi Rotary Club called on fellow members to help restore Malawi's glory through charitable work during his inauguration Saturday, writes AfricaBrief Reporter.
Limbani Kakhome, succeeding Giorgia Prizzon, emphasized the need for swift action in the face of Malawi's socio-economic and environmental challenges.
"Our city Lilongwe bears the brunt of the country's socio-economic challenges, and the scars of environmental decadence," Kakhome said.
"To salvage the welfare of our communities and save both city and country, we as Rotarians can only act responsibly and swiftly."
Kakhome, a seasoned marketer and commercial strategist, currently serves as Director of Corporate Affairs and Communication at JTI Leaf Malawi.
His 20-year career includes positions with multinational companies in Malawi, Ethiopia and Switzerland.
The new president cited personal experiences, including the loss of his wife to breast cancer in 2023, as motivation for community service.
"Her passing reinforced in me the importance of living a life of purpose and service to others," he said.
Kakhome's priorities include increasing membership, supporting local charities, promoting community development projects and advocating for gender causes.
