New Karonga CSO Chair Pushes for Media Partnership
In a separate interview, Adams Wundaninge, Chairperson of the Karonga Press Club (KPC), welcomed Phiri's call for strengthening partnerships with the media.
KARONGA, Malawi— The newly-elected Chairperson of the Karonga Civil Society Organization (CSO) Network, Edgar Phiri, has stressed the need to cultivate a strong partnership with the media to drive development initiatives within the district, writes Lusekero Mhango.
In an interview on Sunday, Phiri stressed that effective collaboration between civil society and the media is essential for amplifying community voices, holding leaders accountable, and ensuring transparency in implementing various projects.
"The media is a crucial partner in our mission to foster sustainable development in Karonga; as such, by working together, we can ensure that the challenges our communities face are brought to light, and that progress is made where it is most needed," he stated.
The CSO Network chairperson further called on journalists in the district to actively engage with civil society organizations to better understand the issues affecting the communities and to report on them accurately and objectively.
In a separate interview, Adams Wundaninge, Chairperson of the Karonga Press Club (KPC), welcomed Phiri's call for strengthening partnerships with the media.
Wundaninge noted that there is often a lack of trust between CSOs and the local media when collaborating on development initiatives.
"Many CSOs tend to avoid engaging with the media during project implementation, which hampers efforts to raise awareness and promote transparency," he explained.
