New health center brings relief to Nsangwe community in Malawi
Group Village Head of Nsangwe expressed satisfaction with the project's completion, citing its potential positive impact on the community.
CHIKWAWA, Malawi — Residents of Nsangwe are celebrating the completion of a new health center, funded by a K52 million grant from the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) program, writes Moses Thole.
The facility addresses a critical need in the community, where residents previously traveled over 15 kilometers to reach the nearest medical care at Ngabu Community hospital or Dolo health center.
Group Village Head of Nsangwe expressed satisfaction with the project's completion, citing its potential positive impact on the community.
Illias Abdul Karim, Member of Parliament for Chikwawa South Constituency, highlighted the benefits for local villages.
"Pregnant women from villages like Gonda, John, and Gogo will no longer have to travel long distances for medical care," Karim said.
However, the health center's opening faces a delay as two staff houses still need to be constructed.
Karim assured residents he would prioritize this and other development projects in the area.
"I will continue to focus on bringing essential services to our community," he said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the staff houses.
The Nsangwe health center represents a significant improvement in healthcare access for the rural community, potentially reducing travel times and improving health outcomes for residents.
