Malawi-As the days draw closer to the election of the new leadership at MISA Malawi, new faces have emerged to compete for the position of chairperson, writes Eric Nantchengwa.
Andrew Silumbu, a reporter and radio broadcaster at Dzimwe Community Radio Station, has risen to challenge the position.
Silumbu believes he has the capacity to lead MISA Malawi, having faced challenges within the media industry, particularly with community radios, which have received less attention over the years.
He stated that there are a lot of journalists working as interns for over five years at the national level, which he considers to be an exploitation of the highest order and signals MISA's failure to engage media managers on the matter.
If given the mandate to lead MISA Malawi, Silumbu intends to establish a community radio fund called the Liwu la ku Mudzi Fund.
"MISA Malawi will lead in fundraising and engage donor partners to support Liwu la ku Mudzi Fund," he added.
Another contender for the position is renowned investigative journalist Golden Matonga.
According to Silumbu, community radios will have to apply to access the money from the Liwu la Ku Mudzi Fund.
