New Executive Director Appointed at Environmental Coordinating Institution

LILONGWE, Malawi — The Coordination Union for the Rehabilitation of the Environment (CURE) has announced the appointment of Charles Mkoka as its new executive director, the nonprofit organization announced on Saturday, writes Winston Mwale.
Mkoka steps into the role, succeeding Reginald Mumba, who retired after serving as the executive director for 14 years.
Mkoka brings a wealth of experience in natural resources management, environmental education, and diverse multimedia development communication to CURE.
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Malawi and a certificate in Environment and Natural Resources Management from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources' Natural Resources College.
Maynard Nyirenda, Chairman of CURE's board, expressed confidence that Mkoka's experience will aid the environmental network in achieving its mission and attaining financial self-sustainability.
Nyirenda warmly welcomed Mkoka and extended gratitude to Mumba for his dedicated service over the years.
Recognized as a credible apex NGO for environmental issues and initiatives in Malawi, CURE maintains robust connections with both local and international NGO communities.
It collaborates closely with various government departments in Environment and Natural Resource Management.
CURE serves as an effective environmental focal point, facilitating information flow, capacity building, and training in participatory development approaches for community-based natural resource management.
Established in 1994 during the onset of democratic reforms after the launch of the National Environment Action Plan (NEAP), CURE is a pioneering NGO dedicated to ensuring an environment that can sustain Malawi's present and future generations in a productive, sustainable, and dignified manner.
With its mission to enhance coordination, planning, implementation, and overall management of environmental activities at national, district, and community levels primarily among NGOs, CURE also engages in consultations with government bodies and donors to achieve its goals.
