New Chitipa United Chair Calls for Teamwork, Eyes League Victory
Chitipa United finished last season in fourth position, defeating Blantyre giants Mighty Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets among others.
CHITIPA, Malawi - Fidelis Kambalame, the newly elected Chairperson of Chitipa United, has called for teamwork to ensure the team’s success in the upcoming season, writes Victor Musongole.
Kambalame was speaking after being elected at the club’s Elective General Meeting held at Fwasa Lodge in Chitipa on Saturday.
The meeting ushered in a new executive committee to guide the team for the next three years.
“We will work as a team to achieve what the team has agreed which is to win the league as agreed and everyone wants to see the team playing at home,” said Kambalame.
When asked about the leadership of the technical team, Kambalame promised that the team would soon have a head coach to replace Macdonald Nginde Mtetemera, who joined newly promoted Kawinga FC, now rebranded to Creck Sporting.
Kaula Nyasulu, the District Sports Chair, was delighted with the turnout of voters who freely chose their preferred leaders.
“The elections were free and fair. People have chosen their preferred leaders, and we believe they will perform accordingly as entrusted,” said Kaula.
Senior Traditional Authority Mwaulambia of the district expressed hope in the new executive and supporters committee.
He believes they will work together to see the team doing better.
However, he expressed concern about the funding for the completion of Base ground, which is intended to be used as a home ground for the team.
“We want to see our team playing at Base ground, but the council is assuring us that this will be done in good time,” STA Mwaulambia said.
Teka Sichela was voted to deputize Kambalame, while Mike Yobe will be the Second Vice Chairperson.
Watson Mwaiseni Kabaghe will replace Duma Ngoma as the team’s General Secretary, with Joseph Wamaka Mushani as his vice. Grecious Mkombadzinja was maintained as treasurer.
