New K70M Multipurpose Hall Boosts Education in Nkhata Bay
The new hall is expected to benefit two local primary schools, Bwelero and Chikale, neither of which previously had such a facility.
NKHATA BAY, Malawi - A new multipurpose hall worth K70 million opened Saturday in Nkhata Bay district, aiming to address space constraints in local schools, writes Rabecca Kaunda.
The Chimbota Multipurpose Hall, funded by Belt Trust and built by Chimbota Community Development Organization, is located at Bwelero in the area of Sub-Traditional Authority Mndola.
Kelvin Troughton, director of the organization, said the hall will help solve problems faced during national examinations.
"During standard 8 primary examinations, other learners who are not candidates are asked not to come to school until the examination ends," Troughton said.
The organization also plans to construct a clinic in Bwelero to reduce travel distances for medical care.
"People have died on their way to hospital, and that may happen again in the future because it is a long distance and expensive," Troughton added.
Grace Kwelepeta, member of parliament for Zomba Malosa constituency, praised the durability of the structure.
"We have a lot of NGOs abusing funds, but this hall is something with good standards," she said.
Sub-Traditional Authority Mndola called on the community to support development initiatives in the area.
The new hall is expected to benefit two local primary schools, Bwelero and Chikale, neither of which previously had such a facility.
