New 5-Year Country Strategic Plan Aims to Transform Malawi's Future

DOWA, Malawi— In a bid to combat hunger, poverty, social inequality, and climate change impact, United Purpose (UP) and Self Help Africa (SHA) have unveiled a new brand and a visionary 5-year country strategy for 2023–2027, writes Vincent Gunde.
This initiative seeks to create sustainable livelihoods and healthier lives for all Malawians amid a changing climate.
The rebranding signifies a renewed commitment to innovation, community, and impact, with a pledge to exceed previous achievements in critical areas such as WASH interventions, water, sanitation, hygiene, and agriculture.
Speaking at the launch event held in Dowa, Self Help Africa Malawi Country Director Kate Hartley-Lewis expressed enthusiasm for the new brand's potential.
She explained, "This new brand combines the strengths and expertise of both organizations to combat hunger, poverty, and social inequality, aligning with the 2063 Agenda for Malawi's development."
Dowa District Commissioner Stallich Mwambiwa commended Self Help Africa's decade-long presence in Malawi, emphasizing the organization's significant contributions to government-led community service efforts.
He highlighted the merger of United Purpose (UP) and Self Help Africa (SHA) as a beacon of hope for the district, fostering optimism that the interventions planned for the region will be sustainable and community-driven.
"Our expectations are enormous and extend beyond our current approaches," Mwambiwa asserted, underlining the ambitious goals set for the collaboration.
Councillor Mayamiko Kambewa, Chairperson of Dowa District Council, hailed the partnership between the two organizations as a milestone that holds great promise for the region.
Drawing on United Purpose's established track record in Dowa, Kambewa expressed hope that Self Help Africa's involvement would further promote WASH initiatives and bring transformative change to the district.
Kambewa urged NGO partners and various sectors to collaborate closely with Self Help Africa (SHA) to ensure the successful implementation of their new brand and the 5-year 2023–2027 country strategy, emphasising its significance for the entire community.
The launch event marked the beginning of a transformative journey, as Malawi's united front takes on the pressing challenges of the coming years with a shared vision for sustainable development.
