NED Top Teachers Honoured for Excellence
The best teacher, student and school each received K100,000 and a certificate of recognition.
Mzuzu, Malawi- The Northern Education Division (NED) awarded 103 top-performing teachers and 12 students today for excellence in the 2023 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) exams, writes Tawonga Chisale.
The awards ceremony was sponsored by NBS Bank, The Grey Matter Limited and others.
The best teacher, student and school each received K100,000 and a certificate of recognition.
“The awards bring motivation to teachers and students to work very hard,” said Harry Mkandawire, Minister of Defense, who attended the ceremony.
He said the awards help Malawi achieve its Vision 2063 goals.
NED was the top performing division in the 2023 MSCE results, with a 58.8 percent pass rate.
“Our secret is empowering teachers with training and new skills,” said NED Manager Jennings Matalabanda Kayira.
He said their strategic plan focuses on leadership, discipline, resources and supervision.
Ismaila Msitika, who scored 8 points at Mzuzu Government Secondary School, won a student award.
“Hard work and great teachers helped me succeed,” he said.
He urged students to work hard for recognition.
