NCA, DCA hand over Mikonga Cooperative Oil Seed Processing Facility
The project is part of NCA/DCAs Climate Smart Economic Empowerment aimed at increasing income for small holder farmers.
Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and DanChurchAid (DCA) on Tuesday this week handed over Mikonga Cooperative Oil Seed Processing Facility in Mchinji District.
The facility is an integrated warehouse and processing facility situated at T/A Dambe with other interventions such as oil seed production, poultry enterprise and winter cropping.
NCA/DCA Country Director, HÃ¥vard Hovdhaugen commended the unity among various stakeholders and implementing partner, Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD), for collaborating with them towards creating an economically empowered community.
The facility locally markets its products such as cooking oil, sunflower seed cake, eggs, chickens, chicken manure and buys raw materials from the same communities.
NCA supported the facility with the construction, as well as factory equipment, the community contributed 30% of the construction materials.
The project is part of NCA/DCAs Climate Smart Economic Empowerment aimed at increasing income for small holder farmers.
NCA/DCA has supported the cooperative since 2017.
This is a great initiative. The value addition to local products embedded in the project is quite commendable. 21st century Malawi needs such innovative projects.
