Nankhumwa calls on Chakwera to dissolve entire cabinet over crisis
He went on to say that President Chakwera should cancel his trip to Egypt in order to address the country's serious problem.
Malawi: Kondwani Nankhumwa, legislator for Mulanje Central, DPP vice president for the south, and leader of the opposition in Parliament, has asked President Lazarus Chakwera to dissolve his cabinet and appoint 18 responsible people to work for the well-being of Malawians “because the current cabinet has failed to deliver”.
Nankhumwa stated this on November 2nd, 2022 in Lilongwe while speaking to members of the press about the issues that Malawians are currently facing.
He brought up several issues that the country is currently dealing with, such as a lack of fuel, a currency shortage, and the issue of AIP, to name but a few.
He stated that dissolving the entire cabinet rather than just reshuffling will help to get rid of all the deadwood.
"It is clear that he has lost confidence in most of his cabinet members. He even said himself that a good number of them are not performing to the expert standards. Shuffling the cabinet should go beyond it. Looking at the economic situation in the country the president should just dissolve the whole cabinet,” he said.
Nankhumwa said it was possible to realign and create 18 ministries, saying in the past, a large number of government departments have been consolidated into one ministry.
He said that is what the president must do in order to control the situation and save the country's resources in the long run.
He went on to say that President Chakwera should cancel his trip to Egypt in order to address the country's serious problem.
"It's a pity that the president is going to Egypt for two weeks by the end of this week while the country is facing a lot of problems like no medicines in the hospitals, shortage of fuel, and the issue of AIP it worries more," he said.
Nankhumwa is very right
