Namiyango ZEC Unveils Men's Ministry to Boost Engagement
The launch of the men's ministry aims to boost male engagement within the ZEC denomination as it continues its national growth.
BLANTYRE, Malawi — Namiyango Zambezi Evangelical Church (ZEC) under the Mitsidi synod launched its men's ministry on Sunday, aiming to foster greater involvement from male congregants, writes Gift Kaimira.
"Men in the church should be proactive in building the God's kingdom," said Rev. Zacheus Jekemu, the resident pastor, during the launch.
Jekemu said the ministry will discuss issues affecting men, ranging from spiritual to physical life. He encouraged members to emulate women's village banking groups by providing financial support to one another.
"Through the men's ministry, men should be able to help one another financially as women do with village banks," Jekemu stated.
Rev. Robert Yanduya, the ZEC secretary general, hailed the new ministry as "a game changer" in spreading the word of God.
"All along, women have been seen singing in churches and conducting charitable works," Yanduya said. "Time has come for men to support the growth of the church."
The Zambezi Evangelical Church, established in 1894 by missionary Rev. Joseph Booth, was predominantly rural for its first century.
However, since the 1980s and 1990s, it has rapidly expanded its presence across Malawi.
