Namibia Announces New Visa Policy for 2025, Sparking Mixed Reactions
This policy shift represents a significant change in Namibia's approach to border control and tourism management.
WINDHOEK, Namibia— Namibia plans to implement new visa requirements for nationals from 32 countries starting April 1, 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security announced Thursday, writes Martha Nakhate.
Visitors from affected countries will need to pay a N$1,600 (approximately $107 USD) visa fee upon arrival. Eligibility criteria include:
- No criminal record
- Proof of financial means
- Medical insurance
- Valid passport for at least six months
The decision has drawn mixed reactions. Many Namibian citizens have expressed support on social media, with one stating, "If I need to bring bank statements ... and all sort of documents and still buy a visa just to gain entry to a country, that country should also do the same to gain entry to my country."
However, the Ministry of Tourism has raised concerns about potential negative impacts on the sector.
The new policy has also prompted individuals who have faced visa challenges in countries like Canada to share their experiences.
The government has not yet released the list of 32 countries affected by the new requirements.
