Mzuzu University Celebrates Silver Jubilee and 25th Congregation with President Chakwera

MZUZU, Malawi - Today, Mzuzu University is brimming with excitement as it commemorates its Silver Jubilee and 25th congregation, graced by the honourable presence of the President of the Republic of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, write Winston Mwale and Peter Chilongo.
This exceptional dual celebration has set a jubilant tone, and the city of Mzuzu is bedecked in a festive atmosphere.
The day commenced with a spirited procession led by the Mzuni Alumnus, which showcased unity and pride.
Beginning at Chiwanja, the procession made its way to the Mzuzu University Campus, captivating the audience with their enthusiasm. The Malawi Police Brass Band added a melodious touch to the festivities, further elevating the celebratory spirit.
This two-day event promises to be a memorable occasion, honouring the accomplishments of both the university and its graduates.
A remarkable total of 2,022 graduands are set to receive Degrees and Diplomas, marking the successful culmination of their studies.
This monumental achievement underscores the dedication and hard work of the students, faculty, and staff at Mzuzu University.
President Chakwera's presence at the celebration lends special significance to the event. He graces the occasion not only as a guest but also as a symbol of leadership and commitment to education in Malawi.

In his address, President Chakwera highlighted the remarkable growth of Mzuzu University over the past 25 years, saying, "Mzuzu University is an inspiring and befitting example of what it takes to achieve great things from humble beginnings. From just one faculty of 73 students 25 years ago, the university has steadily become a centre of academic excellence, with the current six faculties accommodating over 8,000 students."
He further emphasised the institution's role in national development, stating, "Over the past quarter of a century, it has grown into a premier institution through the provision of relevant, quality, and competitive multi-disciplinary studies that resonate with national development aspirations as outlined in the Malawi Vision 2063 blueprint."
President Chakwera also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to investing in tertiary education, saying, "My administration will continue investing purposefully in tertiary education so that we make our universities developmentally relevant and globally competitive."
