Mzuzu Stadium Set for Super League Games After Renovations
Moyale Barracks and Mzuzu City Hammers, formerly Ekwendeni Hammers, are the top-tier Super League teams that use Mzuzu Stadium as their home ground.
MZUZU, Malawi — The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has given Mzuzu Stadium the green light to host Super League matches after inspecting the playing surface Tuesday ahead of the new season starting this weekend, writes Victor Musongole.
"We are impressed and happy with progress here. It is looking as a match day, the pitch is almost 80 to 90 percent ready," said FAM Technical Officer Robert Mzinza after the inspection.
"We have been visiting this stadium for some time. This time it shows they are dedicated, and I have seen bids for some major maintenance and water system. After these, the stadium will not be the same."
Renovations at the stadium have included pitch leveling, replanting, remarking stands, and replacing the perimeter fence.
Mzuzu City Council Assistant Director of Parks and Leisure Gerald Mchacha said more work is planned thanks to government funding.
"We received a nod from government on funds for maintenance. So far we have done several renovations like pitch leveling and replanting. We are on track. We stopped any trainings here. We want it to be fully maintained," Mchacha said.
"As you are aware, we have advertised for bids for toilets, water system, dressing room will be refurbished and scoreboard."
