Mzuzu Stadium: A Hopeful Comeback
The Mzuzu City Council estimates the capacity of Mzuzu Stadium at 14,200 spectators.
Mzuzu, Malawi-The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) conducted an inspection of the Mzuzu Stadium on Tuesday, following its ban in August this year due to non-compliance with required standards, writes Victor Musongole.
The delegation, led by Maxwell Mtonga from FAM, included officials from the City Council, Sulom, and various teams.
The inspection revealed several improvements at the stadium, including pitch levelling, replacement of the perimeter fence, maintenance of dressing rooms and toilets, and redemarcation of stands.
Officials from Moyale Barracks and Ekwendeni Hammers expressed their concerns about the closure’s impact on their teams, citing increased costs due to using the Rumphi stadium as their home ground.
Yotamu Mtafya, Mzuzu City Council’s Director of Parks and Leisure, voiced his commitment to getting the stadium back on track to host games.
“We have done several renovations that we were told to do, like a pitch, perimeter fence, and maintenance of dressing rooms and toilets, just to mention a few, so we are hopeful it will pass the test this time, and we have planned and budgeted several structures after the season,” Mtafya said.
