Mzuzu City Summit to Address Liveability and Sustainability Challenges
Mzuzu City Council to host first-ever summit on July 26 to find solutions to liveability and sustainability challenges.
MZUZU, Malawi — Mzuzu City Council will on July 26 conduct the city's first-ever summit, a Ministry of Local Government, Unity, and Culture effort aimed at finding answers to livability and sustainability issues, writes Draxon Maloya.
The summit aims to develop viable solutions to improve service delivery by identifying gaps and transforming the city council, organising chairman Retired Lt. Col. Yoram Ngwira said.
He said the forum will take a comprehensive approach, focusing on waste management, vending, revenue generation, transport and policies.
Over 200 delegates from national, regional and local organizations are expected to attend. The council has budgeted at K12 870 000.00. for the summit.
Given the summit’s significance, some of the proceedings will be broadcast on local radio stations and social media, Col. Ngwira said in appealing for financial and in-kind support for costs.
The summit will be held under the theme “Renewing Cities for Economic Growth,” focusing on issues like waste management, vending, revenue generation, transport and connectivity.
Col. Ngwira said the summit seeks to create city solutions that will spur development and accelerate Malawi’s implementation plan for Vision 2063.
The inaugural Mzuzu City Summit provides an opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate on transforming the city into a more livable and economically vibrant place.
With the right recommendations and follow-through, it could help pave the way for smarter urban development and management in Mzuzu.
