KARONGA, Malawi— Lupakisho Mwalukazingo's second-half goal propelled Baka City to a 1-0 victory over Creck Sporting Club in the FDH Bank Cup on Saturday, securing a spot in the quarterfinals, writes Lusekero Mhango.
In a tense match at Karonga Stadium, Mwalukazingo broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, tapping in after Geffery Mwalwembe's shot hit the post.
Creck Sporting Club, under interim coach Joseph Kamwendo, dominated much of the play but couldn't find a way past Baka City goalkeeper Abraham Mwandenga.
Baka City, nicknamed the Clever Boys and currently at the bottom of the TNM Super League, made the most of their opportunity to advance.
"We've had a difficult season so far; this cup run will give us confidence in our league matches," said Baka City coach Kondwani Mwalweni.
Kamwendo, filling in for suspended head coach McDonald Mtetemera, acknowledged his team's shortcomings.
"It's disappointing to go out of a cup which we had ambitions to go far in, but we were not good enough today," he said.
The victory marks a bright spot for Baka City in an otherwise challenging season, as they look to build momentum from their cup success.
