BLANTYRE, MALAWI — Mwaiwathu Khupe emerged as the winner of the 2023 Miss Heritage Malawi pageant held at Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre, writes Happy Valirani.
In a dazzling grand finale event, Mwaiwathu Khupe, a 21-year-old entrepreneur and model from Blantyre, was crowned the 2023 Miss Heritage Malawi.
She was selected out of 14 contestants by a panel of five judges, including Christian Entwan, Pamela Mazengera, Lucy Nkhonjera, Yakie Lopez, and Sean Francis.
Expressing her happiness, Khupe emphasised the importance of self-belief and encouraged other young girls interested in modelling.
She said, "I didn't even expect that at the end of the grand finale, I would be a winner. I would like to urge people to continue with the support they have been showing, as I will be representing Malawi in the Miss Heritage Global event in South Africa."
The CEO and National Director of Miss Heritage Malawi, Madalo Yusuf Mkuwu, praised the successful execution of the event.
She remarked, "I'm very excited with the way the event has been done; this is my first physically conducted show event. We chose the theme of mental health awareness this year to address the issue of online bullying faced by the models in the past."
Along with the prestigious title, Khupe received a Queen-size bed from Home of Curtain Kings, a year's supply of hair from Taps, and a K250,000 cosmetics hamper from Fkay Cosmetics.
She will represent Malawi in the Miss Heritage Global 2023 event, scheduled to take place in South Africa on August 26th.
The grand finale was graced by the presence of former Miss Heritage Malawi winners, Juliana Banda (2021) and Renee Marcolus (2022).
The event featured electrifying music performances by Lulu, Goma, Tuno, DJ Gene, and Refilwe, as well as poetry recitals by Refilwe.
