MV Ilala to Undergo Refit
Passengers have been worried about their safety since the vessel has not gone for a refit in over two years.
Monkey Bay, Malawi - The largest moving vessel on Lake Malawi, MV Ilala, will be out of service for a period of time for a refit, writes Francisco Mwanza.
The refit is a normal procedure that all moving vessels must undergo at some point in time.
"If it doesn't meet the required mileage, it can actually take a longer period of time, even a year or two, unless otherwise advised by the engineers," said Thomas Chafunya, a spokesperson for Mota-Engil, the company that owns MV Ilala.
"We just beg our passengers to adjust because this is for their comfort and safety."
Passengers have been worried about their safety since the vessel has not gone for a refit in over two years.
However, Chafunya has assured passengers that the refit is being done for their safety and comfort.
"We know people love Ilala because of her capacity and reliability," he said.
"But they just have to reschedule and adjust treats around MV Chilembwe, which will replace MV Ilala."
The MV Chilembwe is a smaller vessel, but it is still able to carry a large number of passengers.
The refit of MV Ilala is a necessary procedure, and it is being done to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers.
Passengers are asked to adjust their travel plans accordingly.
