BLANTYRE, Malawi — A Muslim organization donated food and supplies worth K100 million to 2,000 patients and guardians at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre on Sunday, writes Steven Godfrey Mkweteza.
The donation, part of celebrations for the birth of Prophet Muhammad, was made by the At-tariqatul Qaudiriya Sunni Association (AQSA) under the leadership of Limbe Muslim Jamaat (LMC).
Mohammed Aboo, national coordinator for the 2024 Ziyara celebration activities, said the donation exemplifies the prophet's spirit of unity.
"As a Muslim community, we believe in promoting unity and solidarity among people of different backgrounds just like what Prophet Muhammad was, hence the donation," Aboo said.
The donation included sugar, milk, sanitary pads, soap and maize flour.
Aboo said the group plans additional charity events, including a career guidance talk Monday at Mpingwe Sports Club in Limbe, a motorcade parade Sunday night, and prayers from Kanjeza mosque to Mpingwe Sports Club on Sept. 16.
Maria Kathumba, a beneficiary from Chiradzulu district, expressed gratitude for the support.
"This will go towards easing my challenges of accessing food and other stuff due to economic challenges," Kathumba said.
