The general public and fellow artists paying their last respects

Malawi: On Saturday, hundreds of people, including fellow artists, paid their last respects to the young musician Waylcris Wanyengo, also known by his real name Wyson Laifoh, in Machinjiri, Blantyre, writes Thokozani Beaton.

Waylcris, who was born on September 25, 1997, was best known for his hit Yao song "Achalume."

He died on December 23 in a road accident in Zimbabwe while travelling to Malawi from South Africa for performances. During the funeral ceremony, veteran musician Ethel Kamwendo Banda spoke about Waylcris, describing him as a unique and talented artist who had taken the airwaves by storm.

Ethel urged other up-and-coming artists to carry on where Waylcris left off, saying, "We will miss him because of his unique touch of music. I only urge other up-and-coming artists not to give up but carry on where Walycris has left."

Waylcris has been laid to rest in Machinjiri Township.
