Mponela Police Urges Villagers to Seek Non-Violent Solutions to Problems

Mponela, Malawi -Mponela police station, led by the Station Criminal Investigation Officer (SCIO) Detective Inspector Paswell Manase, has advised villagers from Chitete to seek alternative ways of resolving their problems rather than resorting to arson and suicide, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
The meeting addressing this critical issue was convened at Chitete Village on September 6, 2023.
Detective Manase expressed the concern of the Mponela Police regarding the increasing incidents of arson and suicide in the policing area. Almost every week, the police receive cases related to these distressing acts.
He appealed to the community, saying, "If you have problems, seek advice from neighbours and utilize the services of the Mponela Police Victim Support Unit rather than resorting to self-harm or damaging someone's property through arson."
Sub Inspector Thomas Mbukwa, speaking on the matter of gender-based violence, emphasised that the doors of the Mponela Police Victim Support Unit are always open to those in need.
He encouraged individuals facing domestic problems to visit the office for counselling and support.
The meeting was organised in response to the rising incidents of arson and suicide within the Mponela Policing Area, reflecting a proactive approach by local law enforcement to address these critical issues.
