Mponela Police Station Warns Visitors: Don't Send Money to Scammers

Mponela, Malawi– Mponela Police Station has warned visitors against sending money to unknown people who pretend to assist with bail for their suspected relatives, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
Station Officer Senior Superintendent Lonnie Mnjale said that police bail is free and that anyone who asks for money in exchange for bail is a thief.
She advised visitors to report any such requests to the police.
Sub Inspector John Kushe concurred with Mnjale, saying that the police often ask questions of visitors to determine the right office to direct them to.
He said that these questions are not meant to be intrusive, but rather to ensure that visitors receive the best possible assistance.
Mnjale and Kushe urged visitors to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to scams.
They said that the police are committed to providing good service to the public and that they will investigate any reports of fraud.
