NSANJE, Malawi - Member of Parliament for Nsanje Central, Kafandikhale Mandevana, has emphasized that investing in youth economically is a prerequisite for the country's development, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Mandevana echoed these remarks at the launch of the K10 million Kwacha youth revolving fund at Mpatsa Community Day Secondary School in the constituency.
"This is not a political initiative, but it is for all the youths in Nsanje Central, regardless of affiliations such as church, tribe, or party as long as you are in the area," he emphasized. He challenged the beneficiaries to show prudence in their ventures, saying he will engage some partners to equip them with business management skills.
Mandevana urged the first cohort of the beneficiaries to repay the loan accordingly and on time to bring meaningful developments. The first cohort has a total of one hundred youths drawn from the area.
Chairperson of the Tengani Area Development Committee (ADC), Benjamin Msongera, praised the lawmaker for the youth loans, saying they will empower them economically.
"Women are also eyeing the same initiative so that their livelihoods are boosted financially in the constituency," said the chair.
Msongera disclosed that the loans arrived at the right time when the youths had nothing. One of the beneficiaries, Rhoda Lingi, said the loan is going to increase her small-scale business, which was greatly affected by the effects of Cyclone Freddy, which did not spare Nsanje Central.
"I am grateful for this loan, as it will help me bounce back from the losses I suffered," she said.
