MANGOCHI, Malawi — Ralph Pachalo Jooma, the Member of Parliament for Mangochi Monkey Bay Constituency and a lawmaker for the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has commended Muslims in Mangochi for promoting peace and unity, writes Hope Nyondo.
Jooma made the remarks at Zimbawadi Mosque in the district while donating food items to Muslims as part of Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
He praised the community for their “good behaviour” during the Holy Month of Ramadan, saying they demonstrated kindness by sharing various things and showcasing harmony.
“Muslims demonstrated kindness by sharing various things and showcasing harmony, a gesture that needs to be extended even to the Christian community,” said Jooma.
He also called for continued peaceful co-existence between Christians, Muslims, and other faith groups in the district.
Village Headman Taulo, who is also a Sheik at Zimbawadi Mosque, commended Jooma for the timely donation.
On the issue of co-existence, Taulo said he always urges his subjects to live in peace, a thing which has been enjoyed among them in the area.
“We urge everyone to maintain peace and tranquility and continue coexisting in harmony regardless of religious affiliations,” Taulo said.
The donation was part of Jooma’s efforts to support communities during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
