MP Empowers Chiefs to Identify Development Projects
Group Village Headman Mkumaniza thanked Mia for allowing communities to choose their projects of interest.
CHIKWAWA, Malawi— Member of Parliament for Chikwawa Nkombezi Abida Sidik Mia has challenged traditional leaders in her constituency to freely identify developmental projects of their choice to be implemented with the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), writes Cornelius Lupenga.
Mia made the call Saturday at Mkumaniza Community Day Secondary School in the area of Senior Chief Ngabu.
"I should not decide for the communities on the choice of developments but themselves which they will be comfortably looked after," said Mia, who is also the minister of water and sanitation.
She praised President Lazarus Chakwera for increasing the CDF from 100 million to 200 million kwacha, which she said will help MPs implement more projects.
Group Village Headman Mkumaniza thanked Mia for allowing communities to choose their projects of interest.
"We have been empowered by our Member of Parliament to sit down and come up with projects of our interest," he said.
Chikwawa District Commissioner Nardin Kamba described Mia as an outstanding MP who has shown transparency and accountability in using CDF resources to reach rural communities.
The traditional leaders identified construction of a head teacher's house at the school as their priority project.
