MP Addresses School Challenges, Pledges Support for Education Improvements
Mandevana pledged to address these issues with relevant authorities to improve educational conditions in his constituency.
NSANJE, Malawi — Nsanje Central parliamentarian Kafandikhale Mandevana acknowledged Tuesday the significant challenges facing primary schools in his constituency that are negatively impacting teaching and learning, writes Cornelius Lupenga.
During a surprise visit to local schools, Mandevana investigated reports of teacher absenteeism at Nyamithuthu Primary School.
He dismissed these claims after reviewing attendance records.
"I checked in the timebook where all teachers have been signing," Mandevana said.
The lawmaker donated jerseys and balls for football and netball teams at Nyamithuthu before visiting Mpatsa Primary School to observe classes.
At Mpatsa, Mandevana noted a lack of desks and portable boards. "I'm going to meet the relevant authorities to map the way forward to solve these problems," he said.
Jussab Mintrozo, headteacher at Mpatsa, highlighted additional challenges following the school's relocation due to Cyclone Freddy's impact last year.
"We do not have enough portable boards, toilets are in line with the enrollment for both teachers and learners," Mintrozo said, adding that a lack of teacher housing forces staff to walk long distances.
Mandevana pledged to address these issues with relevant authorities to improve educational conditions in his constituency.
