Moyale Barracks, Nyasa Big Bullets Share Spoils in Super League
The draw leaves Moyale in sixth place on 11 points and Bullets in fourth with 14 points after eight matches each.
MZUZU, Malawi — Moyale Barracks and Nyasa Big Bullets played to a 0-0 draw in an intense, tactical Super League match on Monday at Mzuzu Stadium, writes Victor Musongole.
Both teams started cautiously, with the early minutes dominated by high balls and few clear-cut chances.
Brown Magaga came close for Moyale but held off shooting as Bullets defenders recovered.
Babatunde Adepoju had Bullets' best opportunity in the second half, outrunning the Moyale defense after a pass from impressive Maneno Nyoni, but his shot went wide.
As the match wore on, it became an increasingly cagey midfield battle. For Moyale, Robert Mphenzi, Charles Nkhoma and Clifford Chimulambe controlled the middle, while Chawanangwa Gumbo and Loyd Aaron did the same for Bullets.
Both teams made late attacking substitutions but were unable to find a winner.
"We missed chances and lacked composure up front, which cost us maximum points," said Moyale coach Pritchard Mwansa.
"We need to work on our finishing ahead of the Tigers game this weekend."
Bullets head coach Kalisto Pasuwa was unhappy with his team's attack.
"We played well defensively but weren't good at converting opportunities," he said. "Technically, we'll have to work on that."
Moyale's Maneno Nyoni was named man of the match for an exceptional defensive performance.
The draw leaves Moyale in sixth place on 11 points and Bullets in fourth with 14 points after eight matches each.
