Mother-Daughter Conference Strengthens Bonds, Plans for Future
The Mother-Daughter Conference has indeed delivered on its promise, and the organizers are looking forward to more such events in the future.
LILONGWE, Malawi - A transformative event held at UNICAF University campus in Lilongwe, Malawi, has sparked profound conversations between mothers and daughters, writes Winston Mwale.
The Mother-Daughter Conference, organized by Teresa Ndanga of Ndanga Communication and WEINSPIRE Initiative, alongside UNICAF University, was held on December 30, 2023.
“Our Mother-Daughter Conference was profound,” said Ndanga.
“Two girls thought their mum was too strict with them. They later learnt that their mum had been a defilement victim when she was young.”
This revelation led to understanding and empathy, a common theme throughout the conference.
Mothers and daughters held heart-to-heart conversations, many for the first time.
“Many of them continued the discussions after the conference and the feedback we are receiving is amazing,” Ndanga added.
The event’s success has been attributed to its atmosphere of vulnerability and openness.
Participants were grateful for the opportunity to connect on deeper levels.
“We are grateful for both mothers and daughters who came through and allowed themselves to be vulnerable,” expressed Ndanga.
With positive feedback pouring in, there is hope that more of these conferences will be organized in 2024 to continue fostering these essential familial bonds.
Mercy Kayuni: “Well done guess this is just the beginning..”
Irene Namasala: “Welldone to you and the team. Organise more of these.”
Martha Chizuma: “This was amazing ! Next one I will be there with my nieces.”
Zainah Khainza Liwanda: “This is a great initiative. Well done.”
The fee for a mother and daughter to attend was MK 40,000, and food was provided.
