More Funds to Boost Health Services
"Approximately K1.3 billion has been allocated to the health sector, in excess of over K6 million from the supplementary budget," said Chairperson for the council's Finance Committee Councilor.
NKHATA BAY, Malawi - The Nkhata Bay district Council has approved an K8 billion annual budget for the 2024/25 financial year, with the lion's share allocated to the health sector, writes Rabecca Kaunda.
Presenting the budget at a Full Council Meeting, Chairperson for the council's Finance Committee Councilor Acran Chenya said the funds will come from central government transfers and locally generated revenue.
"Approximately K1.3 billion has been allocated to the health sector, in excess of over K6 million from the supplementary budget," Chenya said.
However, the Council's Director of Planning and Development Edgar Chihana said this year's budgets were based on ceilings provided by the treasury through the local government finance committee.
"The health sector was very privileged that besides the ordinary allocations we also had a supplementary budget in excess of close to K6 million in order to maintain structures in the sector," Chihana said.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Nkhata Bay North West Constituency, Julius Chione Mwase, commended the budget, saying the allocation of funds has been distributed to all constituencies across the district which is very satisfying.
