Moral decadence causing corruption in Malawi-evangelist

Malawi: A Lilongwe-based Evangelist Richard Zinyongo says Malawi's financial management continues to be a disaster due to moral deterioration caused by high levels of corruption.
Zinyongo stated that the situation has deteriorated due to a loss of moral values and that by working together.
“We can contribute to finding answers that all Malawians can now seek on how to end the deep-rooted corruption,” he said.
“We appear to have lost our moral direction in terms of looting and mismanagement of public funds and that unless the government develops programmes to sensitise people to change their stealing mindset, we will move as a nation.”
However, social commentator Waliko Chirwa believes that while the government bears primary responsibility for addressing the financial problems of its departments, other parties must also play a role.
According to Chirwa, corruption has been a major economic setback for many African countries, including Malawi, and is frequently regarded as "the evil" that has hampered development efforts in public administration and the political system.
"Corruption has been with us for ages, and rather than being driven into obscurity, perpetrators are quick to evolve new tactics to keep the evil going and cover up their antics," Chirwa explained.
He said the impact of corruption on economic growth in developing countries cannot be overstated, given the widespread perception of its negative effects.
