MITE Eyes New Tourism Markets
Kamtukule described these regional markets as promising vibrant exchanges, potential partnerships and a chance to showcase Malawi’s unique charm to fellow African travelers.
LILONGWE, Malawi- The Ministry of Tourism says the 2024 Malawi International Tourism Expo (MITE) plans to diversify its key tourism source markets by leveraging strong partnerships the ministry has created with the global travel trade, writes Judgement Katika.
Tourism Minister Nancy Kamtukule said during a Tuesday press briefing in Lilongwe that the expo, running April 25-27, 2024, will not only welcome international buyers and travel media from key source markets like the U.K., Germany, Netherlands and U.S. but also tap growing tourism markets like India, China, Italy and France.
Kamtukule said the ministry also intends to engage East African countries like Kenya and Tanzania.
“This is not only because these are growing economies or markets, but also because they receive a lot of tourists from our key source markets. We would like to work with them to extend their visits to Malawi,” she said.
Kamtukule described these regional markets as promising vibrant exchanges, potential partnerships and a chance to showcase Malawi’s unique charm to fellow African travelers.
She said bilateral agreements Malawi signed with these countries in tourism have been operationalized and facilitate joint marketing efforts.
The minister said successful tourism development requires strong collaboration across government agencies and stakeholders at local and regional levels, hence the need for robust partnerships at this year's MITE.
“We are not looking for sponsors; we are looking for partners, institutions and individuals who will work with us not just to deliver the expo but also look at the bigger picture of promoting tourism development in the country,” she said.
"New Partnerships Key for Malawi Tourism Growth," Kamtukule said.
