Minister Urges Graduates to Boost Community Social Services

CHIRADZULU, Malawi — Malawi's Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare Jean Sendeza has called on recent graduates to strengthen social service delivery in communities to ensure sustainability and effectiveness, writes Royal Kasiya.
Sendeza made the request Wednesday during a graduation ceremony for 185 students at Mgomero Community College in Chiradzulu district. She emphasized the impact of bolstering services on government programs.
"I urge you to strengthen social service delivery in your communities. This enhances government sustainability and effectiveness in social service delivery," Sendeza said.
With limited resources for public sector jobs, she urged graduates to prioritize self-employment through entrepreneurship and cooperatives.

EU Sustainable Agriculture Team Leader Denisa Salkova recognized the government's efforts against malnutrition and expressed gratitude for the new graduates joining the workforce.
Principal Secretary for Finance Nwazi Nthambala applauded Mgomero for producing qualified workers despite limited resources.
She asked graduates to create jobs to help achieve 2063 sustainable development goals, not just seek employment.
College Principal Thokozani Mtapaonga urged the class to transform communities and be agents of change.
She thanked the World Bank and EU for financial and training support.
Student representative Stanley Miliyasi assured partners they'll apply their knowledge to transform communities, ensure self-reliance and create youth jobs.
Graduates received diplomas and certificates in social work, community development, agro-food processing, nutrition and home management.
The ceremony also marked Mgomero's 60th anniversary.
