Military Leaders Celebrate Cultural Diversity at Malawi Defense College Event

SALIMA, Malawi— The Malawi Defense Force Command and Staff College celebrated cultural diversity's role in military leadership during its Cultural Day event on Saturday, writes Fegson Phabuli.
Colonel Enock Ntonya, Commandant of the college, emphasized the importance of cultural awareness in military education.
"The Senior Command and Staff Course is not just about honing strategic and operational skills, but also about deepening the appreciation of cultural heritage among student officers," Ntonya said.
Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Amoah, chairman of the cultural day organizing committee, stressed the ongoing importance of cultural appreciation.
"African countries should not stop to appreciate culture and ensure that the future generations embrace it," Amoah said.
Dr. Atikonda Mtenje Mkochi, Executive Dean of Bingu School of Culture and Heritage, called for increased visibility of cultural issues.
The event featured traditional dances and cultural showcases from student officers representing Malawi, Botswana, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
Under the theme "Celebrating Cultural Heritage and Wisdom in Fostering Military Leadership," the event highlighted the diverse backgrounds of officers participating in the Senior Command and Staff Course 03 AY 24 at the Malawi Defence Force Command and Staff College.
