Mighty Waka Waka Tigers secure a 2-0 victory over Dedza Dynamos, moving four places above the relegation zone in the TNM Super League.
BLANTYRE, MALAWI — In a closely contested TNM Super League match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday, August 19, the Mighty Waka Waka Tigers emerged victorious with a 2-0 win over the Dedza Dynamos, writes Happy Valirani.
The win propelled the Tigers from 15th position to 11th on the league table, accumulating a total of 18 points.
Goals from Precious Chipungu and Precious Chiudza in the first half proved to be the decisive factor in securing the three points for Mighty Waka Waka Tigers.
The team's goalkeeper, Innocent Nyasulu, showcased a remarkable performance by saving two penalties, denying Dedza Dynamos the opportunity to equalise.
Nyasulu's exceptional display earned him the title of Man of the Match.
Expressing his gratitude, Christopher Nyambose, the coach for Mighty Waka Waka Tigers, commended his players for their hard work and credited the victory as a turning point for the team.
Nyambose emphasised the importance of maintaining the winning streak in order to solidify their position in the league.
"I am very happy with our performance today. I want to thank my boys for their great performance. In past games, we struggled to find the winning formula and had difficulties scoring. However, today's victory has motivated us to do well in the upcoming matches, ensuring we do not fall back into the relegation zone," said Nyambose.
On the other hand, Dedza Dynamos FC's defeat has left them in 9th place in the league standings with 22 points.
Gilbert Chirwa, the coach for Dedza, expressed disappointment in his team's missed opportunities, particularly the failure to convert two penalties.
Chirwa acknowledged the unpredictable nature of football and stated that they would analyse their mistakes to plan the way forward.
"We missed two penalties, which is very difficult to understand, but we have to accept it. That's how football is. We will sit down with the boys and identify where we went wrong in order to map the way forward," said Chirwa.
In other TNM Super League matches played on Saturday, Chitipa United and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers played to a 0-0 draw at Karonga Stadium.
The result propelled Wanderers to the second position on the league table, tied on points with Chitipa United, who occupy the third position.
