LILONGWE, Malawi -- The Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Football Club has announced that the club will not be participating in this year's international tournaments, as previously announced, writes Happy Valirani.
In a press release obtained by AfricaBrief on Tuesday evening, May 23, 2023, the club informed the general public, supporters, partners, and stakeholders about its decision.
The club cited the ongoing squad redevelopment as the reason for its withdrawal from international competitions this season.
"We have decided to defer international participation in order to fully develop our squad before considering competing in such tournaments. It is better to compete when we are fully prepared rather than participating for the sake of it," stated a portion of the press release.
Furthermore, the press release mentioned that the club is currently in the process of developing a strategic plan for the next 10 years, encompassing both technical and commercial aspects.
This long-term plan aligns with their vision of nurturing the club's growth as an ongoing concern.
The press release was signed by Chancy Gondwe, the club's board secretary, and Roosevelt Mpinganjira, the club's acting chief executive officer.
Earlier this year, the Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Football Club expressed their interest in participating in the 2023 CAF Confederation Cup.
In the 2022 TNM Super League season, the Nomads finished fourth and also secured a victory in the Airtel Top 8 Cup.
Currently, in the 2023 TNM Super League campaign, the Lali Luban boys hold the second position with 14 points, tied with their traditional rivals, the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who lead the table by a slight goal difference.
Both teams have played the same number of games, with Mighty Mukuru Wanderers scoring ten goals and conceding two, while FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have scored twelve goals and conceded three in their respective six matches.
