Mighty Mukuru Wanderers secure a 2-1 victory against Ekwendeni Hammers, advancing to the third position on the log table.
MZUZU, MALAWI — Mighty Mukuru Wanderers emerged victorious against Ekwendeni Hammers with a 2-1 win at Mzuzu Stadium, propelling them to the third position on the log table, writes Victor Musongole.
Vincent Nyangulu capitalised on a mistake by Hammers' goalkeeper Mika Chiyenda, granting the Nomads a lead in the 56th minute.
Ten minutes later, Vitumbiko Kumwenda extended the lead by connecting on a cross from Francisco Madinga.
The home side managed to pull one back in the 70th minute with a powerful strike from Wongani Lungu.
Ekwendeni Hammers' head coach, Elias Chirambo, attributed the loss to his players' lack of composure.
He stated, "We played good football, but the lack of composure cost us the game. The goalkeeper's mistake gave our opponents an advantage, and we failed to come back."
Mark Harrison, head coach of the Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, credited the team's victory to their excellent performance.
He commented, "We played good football, which is why we won the game, despite the unplayable pitch. However, we conceded a cheap goal. Nevertheless, we triumphed against a formidable opponent."
When asked about the upcoming weekend's game, Harrison expressed anticipation for a challenging match against this year's Super League surprise package, Chitipa United.
He stated, "Chitipa is another tough side, especially when playing at home. I hope the boys will rise to the occasion and fight once again."
Vincent Nyangulu was voted the player of the match for his outstanding performance.
Following this victory, the Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have joined the Silver Strikers in second place on the log table, both accumulating 32 points after 17 games.
However, Wanderers trail on goal difference.
