MHRRC Trains Market Committee Members to Bolster Local Revenue Collection

NTCHISI, MALAWI — The Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre (MHRRC) on Friday conducted a comprehensive training programme for market committee members in Malomo, Ntchisi, focusing on local revenue collection, writes Mphatso M'bang'ombe.
The training aimed to enhance participants' knowledge and skills to stimulate economic growth and improve residents' quality of life in the area.
Led by Noel Msiska, MHRRC's Capacity Development Associate, the training emphasized interactive and participatory learning, encouraging participants to actively engage with the course material.
The participants were introduced to the concept of local revenue collection and its critical role in community development.
They gained insights into various revenue sources like market fees, land rents, and business permits.
The significance of transparency and accountability in local revenue collection was also highlighted throughout the training sessions.
Msiska emphasised the importance of community participation in development processes to achieve Malawi's Vision 2063 goals.
He urged the participants to leverage their newfound knowledge and skills to bring about positive changes in their communities.
The training initiative received financial support from Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and Dan Church Aid (DCA) as part of the Malawi Joint Country Programme.
