Media Council of Malawi Emphasizes Importance of Accreditation for Media Practitioners
MCM stressed accreditation for media practitioners in northern region meeting on June 19.
LILONGWE, MALAWI — The Media Council of Malawi (MCM) highlighted the significance of media practitioners being accredited by the council during an interaction with journalists and media houses in the northern region on June 19, 2023, writes Tionge Hara.
During the tour, MCM Executive Director, Moses Kaufa, stressed the implications of media houses and personnel not being accredited by the council.
For example, he expressed his disappointment with the Voice of Livingstonia for not being accredited and advised them to rectify the situation.
During the interaction, Kaufa provided further insight into the details of accreditation.
In response to the visit, Reverend Ken Nyirongo, the Station Manager for the Voice of Livingstonia-VoL Radio, expressed gratitude towards the Media Council of Malawi for addressing various issues.
Reverend Nyirongo acknowledged their lack of accreditation and pledged to take the necessary steps to align themselves with other accredited media houses.
Reverend Nyirongo also appreciated the council for educating them about its functioning and the role of MISA Malawi, which enhanced their understanding of the media landscape.
In addition to visiting the Voice of Livingstonia, the Media Council of Malawi also engaged with several other outlets, including MBC, Times Group, Police FM, Zodiak, Mibawa, and the Nation newspaper.
The visit served as a reminder of the importance of accreditation for media practitioners and highlighted the role of the Media Council of Malawi in ensuring professionalism and adherence to ethical standards within the industry.
