MEC in top gear for 2025 tripartite election
MEC procures non-sensitive materials for 2025 election to avoid chaos.
NKHOTAKOTA, MALAWI — The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is in full swing for the 2025 tripartite election, procuring non-sensitive materials to avoid last-minute chaos, writes Fletcher Chiponda.
MEC Commissioner Richard Chapweteka stressed the importance of timely procurement to avoid being overwhelmed closer to the elections.
The government has provided resources to ensure smooth preparations and avoid delays in the delivery of materials.
A meeting with the Multi-Party Liaison Committee and Elections Supervisory Team focused on establishing voter registration and constituency tally centres.
Concerns were raised about the naming of a centre in Chia Constituency, with Councilor Gaziel Chimzere requesting verification and renaming.
MEC has increased the number of constituencies from 193 to 228 through a demarcation exercise for the 2025 Tripartite election.
The election is scheduled for Sept. 6, 2025, to avoid potential weather-related challenges, according to MEC.
