MEC to Meet with Delegates, Media to Discuss New Electoral Laws, By-elections
MPONELA, MALAWI — The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) is set to meet with various delegates and representatives from the media to discuss the new electoral laws and the process of holding by-elections, writes Winston Mwale.
The event, to be held in Mponela, Dowa, aims to inform the Commission and media houses about the updated legal framework and guidelines for conducting by-elections.
The event is expected to begin with introductions and opening remarks from the MEC Chairman, Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale, setting the stage for the subsequent sessions.
The Chairperson of the Legal Services Committee will provide a comprehensive overview of the new electoral laws and the guidelines for conducting by-elections, offering valuable insights into the updated legal framework that will govern future electoral processes in Malawi.
The Director of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) will also address the audience, discussing the migration to Electronic Results Management Systems (EMDs) and the crucial interface between voter and civil registration.
This session will highlight the incorporation of modern technology into the electoral process, aiming for efficiency and transparency.
Furthermore, the Director of Media and Public Relations, Sangwani Mwafulirwa, will present the roadmap for reviewing the Media Code of Conduct, emphasising the media's role in the electoral process and outlining plans for improving media conduct during elections.
The event will culminate in an interactive plenary session, allowing all delegates to actively participate and engage in discussions on the topics covered during the programme.
The engagement between the MEC and the media is a crucial step in ensuring transparency, efficiency, and adherence to the new electoral laws in future by-elections.
