MCP Vice Presidential Hopeful Mumba Rallies Support in Mzuzu
The MCP elective convention is scheduled for August 8-10, 2024, in Lilongwe.
MZUZU, Malawi— Vitumbuko Mumba, aspiring for the Malawi Congress Party's (MCP) First Vice President position, called on party delegates to support him and President Lazarus Chakwera at the upcoming elective convention, writes Lumbani Kaunda.
Mumba addressed a political rally at Katoto Secondary School Ground in Mzuzu on Sunday, attended by party loyalists, clergy members, chiefs, and the public.
The position Mumba seeks has been vacant since Sidik Mia's death during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Outlining his plans for a potential MCP-led government from 2025, Mumba proposed constructing a dual-carriage road from Lusangazi through Mzuzu City Center to Lupaso.
He also plans to upgrade the Rumphi-Mpherembe-Euthini-Mzarangwe-Mzimba road to tarmac standards.
"I have never lost in any fair and credible elections. This can't be my first, and I don't see myself losing any elections soon or in my life," Mumba said.
The MCP elective convention is scheduled for August 8-10, 2024, in Lilongwe.
Mumba's campaign highlights the party's preparations for future leadership and potential infrastructure development plans.
Other candidates who have so far shown an interest for the same position are current Speaker of the National Assembly Catherine Gotani Hara, and Ken Zikhale Ng'oma, who is currently the Minister of Homeland Security and Director of Strategy for the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
